Thanks to a certain forum member, several of us have been getting our hands on the super-cool SKX399 - it took me a second to put together funding, but it's on it's way!

The reason for the post though is that the shipment path has taken my soon-to-be brand-new Seiko on an unusual detour - tracking has it right now in Narita, Japan!  In the homeland for just a bit before it carries on!  Now of course this watch wasn't produced in Japan... but still.  It's a nice idea!  Typically FedEx doesn't go through Japan - we'd see a hop through Alaska or something.  So this was a real thrill to see.

So here's the pre-shipment photo - one is mine, one belongs to another member.

I read a member's post at WUS that his watch traveled to Malaysia-Taiwan-Anchorage-Memphis  ;D

Hope to see that beauty on your wrist real soon Sir Spencer  ;)

thanks John!  Can't thank you enough for your help on this one!

I had one package go from a member in Singapore - it travelled Singapore>Alaska>Memphis>Boston>Denver - like a giant backwards spiral.  No idea why - it made sense to the package sorting software.

A Vancouverite (From Vancouver, B.C., Canada) forum member at WUS was looking for this model. I tried to help him as well with no luck; and eventually he found one in BNIB condition.

I am glad you also found your grail, my friend.

Now you owe us lots of wrist, lume, and depackaging fotos  >:D .

The other one was mine. I'm still pondering which bracelet to get for it, a president bracelet may be. I don't like rubber straps.

I'm glad you finally got yours. Thanks to your thread, I contacted John and he was top notch all the way.

Enjoy!

I've got a stock Jubilee on the way, but I might go super oyster.  I am not a fan at all of the wave strap, never have been.

wow, what a trip it's taking:

QUEZON CITY>PARANAQUE>GUANGZHOU>NARITA-SHI>INCHEON>SHENZHEN>ANCHORAGE, AK

And each one of those represents a physical scan of the package, not just a plane flying over a geographical point.  The package stopped in transit at a station, was scanned, and went back on its way.

I should map this on Google Earth.

Even though I have the almost identical SKX173, there's something about the 399 that's beckoned to me for quite some time. Maybe it's the chrome lined indices that adds a touch of dressiness to the traditional Seiko diver look.

that's what got me - they're a throwback to the 6105 dial design.  Much classier 3d look - at least in photos.  The watch is in my home town now, at the local FedEx depot.  It should arrive at the door today.

they're a model apparently only available in the Philippines - that's why John helped me out.  For a time people speculated that they weren't an actual Seiko model at all until local reports pegged them as a genuine variant.  They're cool - no idea why they're only available (apparently) in PH.

John went down to the store for the ones he's sent out in this most recent batch - bought 'em brand-new.

Its for sure the chrome bordered hour indices that makes it stand out from the rest of skx series.. something unique and striking especially when you look at it under natural lighting out on the road.. yet remain a humble skx diver.. ;D

day 1 before bracelet change:

I have a brand-new Jubilee waiting at home for the watch to show up today!

Did you just get your SKX399?  Do they sell them locally there or did John help you out too?

It was because of your thread regard skx399(that I got poisoned) and the secret man behind the purchases. Knew about this watch but haven't been paying much attention until I saw the pics again.. Decided to buy it for its nice dial... a really smooth deal done thanks to John.

it's here!

What a beauty, amazing - brand-new of course though it was made Feb 2011 - for a second I got my years mixed up and thought it was due to be made next month...

Thanks again John, what a great gesture to help me out with this - the poor guy had to go back to FedEx three times to get this done - amazing.

Running great - totally flat accurate output on the timegrapher - amplitudes in the 240s - but it has 1.1 beat error - same beat error as my buddy who has a 7s62 dress watch that is accurate to a few seconds a month.

I'll probably leave it be.
