PICS - Grand Seiko 6145-8000 just arrived! The Grail!
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:33:55 AM »

Almost a decade ago I decided I had to have a GS 6145-8000. I always had a enormous respect for the 61xx calibers. Having a high-end 61xx was a must. Inside a Grand Seiko, even better. With an elegante single calendar, inside the classic case design based on the Grammar of Design from Mr. Tanaka... So I decided it had to be a 6145-8000.

Also because my history with watches starded because of a 6119 caliber.

The day has come and it's finally here. I can have others, some much more expensive, even maybe a modern GS. But this one is the definitive Grail of my Seiko collection. In between that time, I had the chance of having other GS's. Even some 6145-8000, but usually in a shamefull condition.

Here's the Grail that just arrived. Excelent condition, never polished case, perfect movement, perfect medallion. I just made a very light buffing today to bring back the shine and luster of the steel. Only the crystal have small dings on the edge. I ordered a new exact replacement crystal made by Sternkreuz, also ordered a lizard leather strap from Hirsch, and an old-style original GS buckle.

Fair enough, I think, it's finally in my hands.

Here's the pics:

Outstanding! I consider the GS to be Seiko's competition to the Datejust. But the GS just looks so much more beautiful. I love the clean lines and classic simple look.

Beautiful watch Adriano, and it's good to see you posting here again.  Just one thing though -- I'm worried that if you're not careful you might suffer from "wrist strangulation", because if that overtight strap doesn't get you, the hairs on your arm will!  ;D

The more I look at the Seiko GS's the more I want one.  Grammar of Design works for me; a beautiful, elegant , classy and functional dress watch with all the design elements in the right place with just enough to do the job and do it well.

Being a designer (architecture) I appreciate good design, watches need to indicate the time and to do that functionally only need a couple of hands, heavy 5 minute indices and a minute track.  That's why I like classic divers.  The case head on the GS is cool also, although the lugs are a bit severe with a thin strap in them.

If I had one I would wear it a lot, you should do the same, unless you work on a building site!

The mighty lugs on that particular model are an important part of what fascinates me about the 61GS...

I might be the only one with this opinion, but for me the 61GS is THE GS when it comes to styling, closely followed by the 57...

Best,
Hermann

Too late! I just lost my left hand this morning...  BUT IT WORTH IT!!!!!!  :))

Now seriouslly, it's not that tight, is a brand new strap and it is still a bit stiff, it strangle on the sides but it is loose on the bottom of the wrist.

Best regards,

Adriano

You have great taste in watches ;D . Here's my 6145-8000. I always wanted a vintage GS too. Unfortunately, it's off having the movement serviced, but I can't wait to get it back!

 Congratulations on your grail!! That is a most superb example of a timeless classic! I absolutely love that model. I tried to get a day/date version, but alas the movement was tarnished and it had to be returned. Isn't it just so gratifying to finally get that white whale you've been after? Enjoy your new treasure!

Cheers,
