Almost a decade ago I decided I had to have a GS 6145-8000. I always had a enormous respect for the 61xx calibers. Having a high-end 61xx was a must. Inside a Grand Seiko, even better. With an elegante single calendar, inside the classic case design based on the Grammar of Design from Mr. Tanaka... So I decided it had to be a 6145-8000.
Also because my history with watches starded because of a 6119 caliber.
The day has come and it's finally here. I can have others, some much more expensive, even maybe a modern GS. But this one is the definitive Grail of my Seiko collection. In between that time, I had the chance of having other GS's. Even some 6145-8000, but usually in a shamefull condition.
Here's the Grail that just arrived. Excelent condition, never polished case, perfect movement, perfect medallion. I just made a very light buffing today to bring back the shine and luster of the steel. Only the crystal have small dings on the edge. I ordered a new exact replacement crystal made by Sternkreuz, also ordered a lizard leather strap from Hirsch, and an old-style original GS buckle.
Fair enough, I think, it's finally in my hands.
Here's the pics:
