What are the opinions of Invicta diver watches? They seem to have some decent looking and some real gawdy ones and prices don't seem to be to bad.

The forum appears to be divided on Invictas.  Enter "Invicta" in the "search" tab above and you'll see a wealth of prior forum discussion on the subject.  For me only, I avoid Invictas.

For what it's worth, I've a few Invictas and I like them just fine.  So, yes, the Forum is divided.   ;D ;D ;D

Invictas? Blasphemy.

(But those 300m Grand Divers sure looks nice. I'd buy 'em for family members who can't treat a Seiko Diver right. Once they pass the probationary period, they'll be considered for a Seiko..) :86:

I'll see what turns out.

Yes, Invicta is always a can of worms on every forum.  You certainly can't go wrong with the Grand Reserve you bought, their higher end stuff is actually pretty nice.  And you certainly can't argue with the value of the classic 8926 diver...for $75 or so, it's a great watch.

Cheers,

Ask someone who hates Invicta to explain why and you'll get well, someone told me or I read somewhere. That's the usual thing.

They make a huge range of watches. Some are dreadful looking and some are just poor but if you are careful they make real bang for the buck stuff and their Swiss Made models are great bargains and are real quality pieces.

You're probably right.  I've read too many negatives about Invicta and their CS and subscribe to the idea "where there's smoke there's (at least some) fire".  Yes, they may put out some reliable and worthwhile models, but with so many competing brands out there, why take a chance?  JMHO.

When I went to Cancun last year, I saw about 2-3 Invicta shops and an abundance of posters at the airport.  They surely made it seem like it was a flagship watch brand.

They are a very large outfit and the sell a lot of watches and own several brands that range quite a bit. They also do a lot of advertising. Their business model is make a relatively small number of a model and keep coming out with new models to encourage more purchases by customers and at the same time have standard models and keep recycling them by making mods to them here and there to make them look different kind of like using leftovers in a restaurant to create new dishes. It's not unusual to find Invicta geeks who own 50, 60 or more of their watches.

My thoughts on Invicta:

Might not have any effect on a 200M WR model unless the liquid is corrosive.  :))

Honestly, some of the older submariner styles are O/K.  Not my style, but decently built.  I've had a couple come across my bench in the past.  The older ones were using a Citizen/Miyota 82xx hand windable auto.  The newer ones are using a Chinese movement similar to the ones used in Alphas.  The newer ones don't hold up as well in my opinion.

Cheers!

Invicta doesn't make their own movements so they use standard tried and true movts. The same as found in 10001 other watches out there. They are using Swiss less and less because of the current situation with them and are using Chinese Mvmts more and more in their base watches. They also use the typical SII (Seiko) and Myota mvmts too.

I'll tell you a story about Invicta service.

A few years ago when I bought an Invicta I had issues with it from the get go, actually it wasn't Invicta's fault it had to do with first use of Stelita mvmts and some issues there. They were using a service to repair their watches and they were totally non responsive and required multiple trips back to repair facility and took months to fix a new watch. Everything that gave Invicta the rep they have.

More recently I had to return a new watch that was damaged in transit and apparently the repair is in house now. I was E-mailed receipt of the watch and advised of the time frame to repair and it was repaired right on schedule, about a month. Then they shipped the watch back to me Overnight express and I was sent a letter thanking me for the opportunity to serve me.

I have to say few high dollar nameplates meet that standard.

Of course when they serviced the watch they didn't remove the bracelet but removed a pin in the bracelet instead and neglected to properly put it back so I almost lost the thing. Luckily I noticed the pin sticking out probably seconds before it would have fallen out.

I bought one last year just because of the sheer wrist presence, it's the Sub Aqua Noma II with a valjoux 7750
movement.
55mm wide
450g in weight haha

Really well made as it happens, great big lump of steel!

Looks great always gets a favourable mention but you need
big wrists to pull it off :)

I really like the style of it, but have seen a lot of other models that
look less impressive.

FTR, I started my watch obsession with Invicta, and have owned ~ a dozen   different models. I've handled and inspected far more more than that.

They're a discount brand, with a few iconic designs. They pride themselves on using the multitude of existing, stock   components to create multiple, new models. The CEO often brags about having ~ 1000   different models to offer for sale,  as a result.

They've produced some nicely made, nice-looking and reasonably sized pieces in the past. But, instead of building the brand around a few, clean and simple designs, too many models tend toward the ridiculously oversized, garish, kitchen-sink look. IMO, of course.

Some of what they do is nice, but its often ruined by too many competing stylistic approaches. IMO, they can produce very nicely finished dials. They could be a centerpiece to the brand.

The many minor and a-bit-more-than-minor missteps they've had over the years don't inspire confidence in the company either.

Instead of playing to their particular strengths, they continually promote themselves via comparison to the 'big names' in the industry, though they have little to none of their bonafides - and then they fall flat when consumers ask them to back up their advertised company claims. They just dig their own hole.

Also, the ridiculous discounting off MSRP adds further insult to your intelligence.

IME, they're perfectly capable of shedding the sh177y reputation and standing on their own particular merits, while building their preferred, fashion-forward styles. They still wouldn't be for everyone, but at least they'd get more respect (and their watches might even hold their value better, as a result).

Anyhow, there's a ton of info on them, via the various watch fora - both plusses and minuses.
