2 bellmatics back from the watchmaker :)
« on: January 16, 2012, 03:27:08 PM »
I picked up my two bellmatics from the watchmaker this morning - both were bought quite cheaply on Ebay, and both had issues - a faulty date wheel on one, and alarm ringing constantly on the other - both are in perfect working order now!

The only glitch left is that the 6040 has the glass in pretty bad condition - if someone can tell me what the correct part number for this case is would be helpful. Also, do you know if it's hardlex or plastic? (ie. is there any chance I can polish it ?)

Here are some photos taken with my mobile phone ... comments welcome!

325T02ANS0 - definitely.

I think it's the same as my gold-tone 6089, and having said that, it's made from plastic and easily polished.  I had done so on mine and it came out rather nice.

They look very nice and yes the crystal is acrylic and easy to polish if not damaged.

I have use aftermarket crystals from "tryabidforit" on fleabay. Price was good a well as service and fitted okay. I think the Tiger put me on to them a couple of years ago. They are based in the UK and the postage overseas is cheap. The crystal are easy to fit yourself, if I can do it any one can.

hello Thanapa,

I took your advice, bought some sandpaper and did a bit of polishing .. the result is in the photo attached, and i'm very VERY pleased!
The way I did it was ..
first with 400 grit dry sandpaper
then with 1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper
(at this point the crystal is a milky white and should be quite uniform)
finally a rub down with metal polish paste (tube from the ironmonger) on a tissue paper ..

the results speak for themselves!
