Another GREAT post made by Ostendorf back in the old SCWF, this time modding a 7549 300m tuna into an auto one....

Hi,

my UK Friend and fellow Forum Member Andy asked me a few weeks ago,

if I could build him his dream watch, like the one on this pic that he made with photoshop:

It should have a Tuna 7549 case, 6105 bezel, a 21 Jewel 6306 Automatic movement and Bill Yao's MK II dial and hands.

As a big Tuna and MK II fan, I was facinated from this idea and Andy sent me the parts he had already collected:

I started with servicing the 6306A movement from a dresswatch, but the date window was on 3 not on 4, so I had to change the main plate too. I modified a movement holder to make the 6306 fit into the Tuna case:

The first attempts with the MK II dial in the Tuna case were not satisfying,

the original chapter ring did not align withe minute marks on the dial:

so we decided to take a black one. As the original Tuna chapter ring is very rare, I turned one out of a 6309 ring and painted it black:

this looks much better:

and here is the result of Andy's dream and my little work

It's a real tool watch, the dial is deep black, has great lume and time is very visible under every condition.

best regards from Germany

Uwe

Wow, I can only imagine how small that chuck is on that Lathe, another dimension to watch modding. It is truly endless and any wonder people get hooked. Thanks :great:
