6309-7290 Diver
« on: December 24, 2011, 04:44:43 PM »
Came to the forum out of interest in Seiko Divers and saw the 6309 Refurb link and was hooked on having a go. So went to Ebay and soon had a knackered 6309-7290 in my hands, from the Philippines, read all of the threads in the 6309 restoration link and then read em again and again. Bought the tools required and then striped the watch down, cleaned and replace all of the seals, chapter ring, crystal and bezel insert. Managed to get a donor movement refurbed and replaced hands etc (now have a movement from the original to work on). The watch is keeping great time and looks great. Without help from the forum and the fantastic 6309 link theres no way I would have attempted it so thanks to all for contributing. Now just waiting for another 6309 to arrive as may son likes the look and wants to have ago himself......

Just finished noticed a little bit of grease on the bottom of the bezel insert to be cleaned off.

Nice one EPP +1 from Polly and a purr.  I did the same as you and also stripped down the movement and replaced a u/s auto winding module.

I am awaiting some 6105 hands to get it into its finished configuration, its modified somewhat, then I will post a summery of my doings and pictures.  I have some folks to thank who helped me out.

Like you the original inspiration came from Tiger Johns 6309 tutorials but I then went the whole hog because I wanted to 'do' watches good and proper.  The how too's in the resources area are fantastic help and much credit is due to the guys for all their efforts to compile them.

Love seeing a first pimp citing help from this forum. I'm about to embark on a similar journey.... I have a bunch of parts waiting on a new home and a set of tools inbound. Hope mine goes as well as yours. Looks great.

If getting into modification, refurbishment and servicing the 6309 is the ideal starting point with many parts available and doner movements for spares.

With a good quality screwdriver, tweezers and basic tool inventory all you need is patience, good eyesight and the knowledge from the 'how too's'.

And with a little practice you will wonder why you did not try sooner.  Being unafraid of getting stuck in (knowing your limitations is important though) opens up a whole new dimension to watch collecting.

Great job EPP could you give me the link to the 6309 restoration you refer to in your post?
I am keen to have a go at a bit of tinkering and am starting completely at the beginning with zero knowledge.

Yeah if you just go to the main forums page and look under "watchmaking and tinkering" you will see a line of child boards the end one is 6309 Project click on that and you will find a wealth of information in a well set out order. One of the best resources I've ever seen on any forum
