New Belle for Paul
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:55:18 AM »
I am waiting for the post this morning with more than normal anticipation, why? Because the delivery might just contain my first, and according to my wife, my only Bellmatic! Bought off EBay, no not the £1000+ one, but one looking very similar, I must admit to being a bit nervous; is it as advertised - superb, or is it a mongrel?
Knowing very little about Bellmatics but liking what I read in the EBay adverts I may have made a complete rookie mistake of jumping in before researching first but hey ho, thats the chance you take sometimes. At this moment I prefer to think that I will receive a delivery of a perfect, pristine, pedigree, pre-christmas present.
(up-date to follow if emotionally able)
PAUL

Good luck on the watch Paul.
Remember the old saying: " If I should die, make sure to tell my wife not to sell my watches for what I said I paid for them".

Congratulations, Paul.  If you share the eb$y link, maybe some of us could either reassure you or cushion the disappointment. One thing to remember, almost all of us have been in your position.   :great:

as requested and up for acclaim or more likely ridicule (which I am used to)  is the link (JohnN), my wait for post was watchless, maybe tomorrow       http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280776141781?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

  • everything looks legitimate in terms of caseback matching dial and case
  • bracelet looks to be in very nice shape as do the dial, hands, and markers
  • I should have concentrated my past eb$y sales efforts in the UK, since people seem willing to pay for nice examples
Conclusion?  it is time to

Hi Paul,

I agree with John, seems like you got yourself a very nice all-original Bell-Matic!
The watch even seems to be unpolished (apart from the bracelet maybe)?

Best,
Hermann

Thanks guys, you have calmed my anxiety a great deal, and, proven to me the value of this forum. For a newbie to have years of experience and knowledge to draw upon, at the other side of a keyboard, its priceless. Next time I will ask for advice before I buy!
The watch is being delivered tomorrow, can't wait, I will give you an update and upload some photo's including caseback
Paul  :)

My new belle was delivered at 11am, weighing a healthy 96 grams, model number 4006-6040, serial no 652183 (May 76 I presume), dial code 4006-6061T. The new arrival has had its time, day and date set, its alarm wound, and rang its little bell right on time.ahhh sweet...........
shmaltz aside- it is simply amazing that a 35 year old watch can appear to have just come out of the Seiko factory, everything works, it could be new, in fact I suspect the bracelet is a new "Stellux".
So I am now a bell-head (or something equally innane), I know where there is a lonely 21 jewel belle just waiting for me.............don't let my wife know!!!!!!
