6119 crown mechanism issue
« on: November 14, 2011, 08:01:28 PM »
Hello

I got a 6119(c)-6400 which the date mechanism was broken/worn out. It also had the crown release pin completely pushed (it seems it would not come back). I got parts, service the movement and reassemble the whole stuff.
I had to get the crown/stem out a couple of times and the release pin always went back into position except the last time of course... so I'm good to disassemble it again...

to your minds what could cause this issue ? how can I make sure it will not happen again ?

regards,
Brice

Hi Brice,
The 619 setting system is not prone to that behavior normally, so I'd suspect a worn or damaged part.  When you take the dial and hands off, carefully observe the set lever to see what is preventing it from returning to it's usual position flush with the mainplate.  The post that you press on to release the stem should be lightly lubricated, check it and its hole for damage.  Also make sure the spring portion of the set lever jumper offers resistance to the set lever, this is what pushes against the set lever opposite the force used to release the stem.

thank you Noah for the answer.

I had the issue a couple of times in between and following the reading of your post found that the spring of the crown sliding pinion was under the set lever (hope I am right with the terms...). I believe the issue comes/came from the fact I generally push on the crown release pin with crown in the time setting position.
