My Bell(e) just arrived !
« on: November 07, 2011, 07:28:52 PM »
Hello,

I've been searching for so long for a vintage Seiko born the same month as me and ... Tada ! I've found a 4006-6001 Serial 040622 born in April 1970 (I'm from the 21st) !

I've checked it up on arrival:

No bad surprise so far. I've polished the plexi (cotton + toothpaste) and the case + back (dremel and diamond paste). Removed dust and biggest traces from dial and ring.
I've mounted her on a black 20mm NATO as I'm still looking for a decent strap for her:

I'm already in love !

I'll buy a new plexy and case spring and give her a check-up at a local watchmaker who is well known from watch collectors around here.

Have a nive day !

Olivier

PS: If you find some clue/evidence it is not from 04/1970 please ... don't tell (:

Hi Olivier,

seems like you got a very nice belle here!
I can not perfectly make it out from the pics, but I am almost 100 % sure it is an April 1970 model!

Any chance you could provide a hi-res caseback picture for my caseback archive?

Many thanks!

Hermann

Hi Hermann,

Are those pictures are OK ? If not, tell me what resolution/type of caseback picture you'd like and I'll make one.

Olivier,

parfait, merci bien!

And congratulations again on that beefy 600 Belle :-)
Definitely an April 1970 model and not too common! Very lovely champagne patina, IMO.
I think the hooded lugs will make it look good on any periodically correct bracelet of your choice!

Best,
Hermann

Yeah, at least the caseback is as old as I am  ;D

Now, if you can point me to a plexi provider for this model (I'm more a beginner SKX modder ... so my sources are not for vintage parts), and an idea for a strap.
I was searching for a metal one, but black (leather/rubber) could fit nicely with the rotating ring.

3 hours of cleaning, polishing, band adapting/mounting this morning.
Quite happy with the final result (even if it could have been better if I had the correct sand paper ...)

Hi there,

She's now in the hands of a watchmaker who will fully dismantle, clean, service, polish and hopefully rebuild it.
Gone for few weeks, maybe till Xmas or even January.
I'm waiting for 2 more, one looks like the same as the one I already have and the second one has a darker dial ... I've planed to offer one to my father for Xmas as he liked mine after my little cleaning ;)

Have a nice day,

Olivier

Hello there !

The "dark" one arrived yesterday. Awful mesh, scratched plexi, the day disk was "turning" by himself while shaking the watch ... and the movement was playing castanets in the case = missing case spring.
Thanks to the wonderful PDF found in the sticky thread I've been able to set back the day disk to work.

As I've ordered 2 spares springs "just in case" last week, I've been able to fix that issue to. After a little polishing (plexi and case) and clean up of dial, alarm ring and hands, I've mounted it on a 20mm (reduced to 19mm) black leather with clasp.

I'm (again) quite happy with the result !

Serial number starting with 0N (so November 1970) for this one.

Hermann, I'll provide you with caseback pictures whenever I receive the 3rd 4006 (-:

have a nice day,

Olivier

Could this possibly be the 4006-603x style dial and alarm bezel in the -600x case?  They do share some dial #'s.

He finally called me yesterday and the watch is done after nearly 4 months !
I had to provide him with my spare 4006A in February because he was not able to source a main spring by himself ...

Time has passed since the day I gave him the watch, I followed watchmaking course, I've dismantled/serviced movements by myself ... so if it was to be done again I maybe wouldn't ...
I just hope I'll be happy with the job done, this is my very first Seiko vintage,  the first born the same month/year as me.

Pictures to come, stay alert !

Have a nice week-end,

Olivier
