Problems with a 4006-7000 27j
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:52:58 PM »
I have this 4006-7000 that I recently acquired. The and case, crystal and back look really good and will buff beautifully. The res of the watch looks nearly new, dial looks perfect, crown and pushbutton. The problem I have is that the case probably leaked water and the movement became rusted slightly. I can turn date, hand and set alarm.  Push button pull out and wont stay in.  I can see slight rust inside and was able to get it to tick just a bit.
Should I find another 27j movement or should I try having it repaired.

Thanks
Bob

  • Do you have a caseback pic?

If all cosmetic parts of the watch are in good condition, then it might be worth repairing the watch...

Finding a working 27J movement in good condition will probably be cheaper though, unless you can do some tinkering yourself...
While parts are readily available from donor movements, finding a nice, unstained and working 27J movement might be a little difficult, though!

You can always get another movement but the case and dial for me are pretty much dealbreakers. If they dont present well, you just can't make a good piece. If they are OK though, it is well worth repairing
