I have literally done loads of them AJ and the first thing i do is have a smoke and relax before doing it, once you get the hang of it it is not too bad a job (once you get the hang of it :) ).

Lol, I dont smoke real cigarettes any more but I will have a good vape (electronic cigarette..) before I do anything. And maybe a small scotch..... :)

So I have an hour or two before I get into this. Anybody have a trick to simplify the re-assembly of this bloody spring for the date corrector on the 4005/6.

Carve yourself a pointed piece of pegwood (or toothpick/cocktail stick), and use this in your non-tweezer-holding hand to always keep the spring in check.  I like to use a piece of brass rod specially turned/ground to this shape, so that it lasts longer and no wooden fibers can get into the movement (be careful of this).  If you always have the end of the tool covering the spring and holding it to the movement (typically it is easiest to cover the top of the bend), there is no chance of the spring flying away while you maneuver the ends into place.  Steady hands and mind can't be taught, but techniques to help avoid problems when the first two are not present do exist.  This is one of them.

Thanks for all the help guys, unfortunately I tucked into a couple of beers to unwind from a busy day and decided it was probably not the best time, there is always tomorrow....

OK, finally got it back together but despite looking ok from the top, I found that the seconds hand was previously bent and I inadvertently made it worse when re-assembling everything. I have installed a spare seconds hand for now that is close to original but if anybody has a nice original, please let me know.

Here are a bunch of pictures of the movement as promised. Note in picture 4 & 5 the missing date quick setting arm and its subsequent installation in the last picture. The quickset works, but the alarm crown does not spring back out, so I am probably going to send this one off to somebody who knows more about them than me to get properly serviced.

So once again, Jonathan Koch (Swedefreak) is the man, managed to find a 4005 date wheel so that is fantastic.

I do have a quick question for the techies, seeing as I am going to have this apart again to install the date wheel soon. Does anybody know if there is a common cause for the issue I am seeing with the alarm crown not returning after pressing it in for the quickset. If anybody has a picture of a 4006 with the date wheel and calendar plate removed but with the quickset components intact, that may help me be able to figure it out also.

Cheers....
AJ

D'oh, not long in Google brings me up what I need. Have to say I think am pretty certain I got it back together correctly. Oh well, I will have another look when I am back in it.

Have you checked both the pins on the date corrector AJ ?
I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)

I thought I had, I will check them again though. Looking at the picture of mine I posted, relative to the 4006, I notice that the setting wheel rocker level is not placed correctly, and above that, that the setting lever spring is properly engaged at the top (from picture orientation).

Thankfully the 4006 Seiko guide hosted here is one of the most comprehensive out there. It has been invaluable... http://thewatchsite.com/files/Casing%20Guide/16.%204006A.pdf
