Watch boxes, what goes with what!
« on: July 13, 2011, 11:49:29 AM »
I've seen many vintage Seiko watch boxes come up on the web and have been tempted to buy them for my 1960's and 70's Seiko's, but can never find out if the box was used for a particular watch. Here are some boxes I have collected (sold some) and still don't have a clue what goes with what!

So if you have a NOS 1960's-70's watch with box OR have archived photo's that show the correct box for a given watch, please post the photos.

Administrators, when the photo data base is available and we can add to it could we have a section for boxes, manuals and promotional material etc.

The first lot. I know the top blue one goes with a 6105-811X or 800X and the next one if for a 5 sports of some sort, but which years and which modles and the last is for an Actus but once again what year etc.

Great idea.
I start with an NOS Citizen V2 from 72 that lives in an rather plain white box which
most likely is the original one.

At the moment on the road, will post some more when I have the time.

Cheers,
Bjorn.

The coating on the Citizen is kind of dark gren/brown and I am not sure how it is made.
Also the bezel ring is made of or have an different kind of coating, certainly not stainless steel.
Citizen was quite experimental in the 70`s when it came to materials and coatings compared
to Seiko.

No, you are not alone liking boxes.
It is really nice to have the original box to the watch.
But I find it even more difficult to find the boxes for the cheaper models, probably the buyer
did not think much of it and throw it in the garbage at once.
Like your 5Actus box, never seen one before even this is the most common 70's mechanical.

I also have a bunch of these Sportsmatic boxes but am not sure the watch inside is the original one.

I will try to post some more pics this weekend of other boxes.

Great post Rod.........and nice collection of Seiko boxes you have..........I've often wondered which watch goes with which box and I think a section in the watch photo data base is a great idea. I'm surprised this post hasn't stired up more interest and had more replies. To me it's an added bonus to have the original box a watch came in.

I received a watch in this box from the UK some time ago. It wasn't the correct box for the watch as far as I could tell but I have since been wondering what watch originally came in this wooded box. It appears to be from the 60's. I've never come across or seen pictures of another wooden Seiko box. If anyone has a clue as to what watch came in this box please chime in.......

I thought this thread with overflow with boxes in all sizes an colours.
But are we so few who like an good old box?

Anyway here is an other one, Seiko 21-3210, 50th anniversary watch of Emperor Hirohitos wedding.

On outside it looks like this box had an hard life somewhere.

Fortunately inside everything is as it should.

I also started some threads about 'which strap came originally with which watch', and also 'which box with which watch' and also noticed, that not that many of our members are interested in these kind of information.

Well at least we can keep it going here :)  As for the for which strap/bracelet I can add some to that list with photos and also add some insight into the numbering system used on some 1960-70's watches.

This is the box for the early 1960's Silverwave 30m

Here is a few that i have had and sold, original watch and boxes.

6m32-5000

5126-8100

6m26-6020

Early 1960 self-dater

8m32-6010

Love that SilverWave box Rod :)

This one is for a 7020 Belle complete with the instructions, it was harder to find (for me) than any of the actual Belles.

I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)

Wow that's amazing and such a lovely box and instructions :)  Now that's what I'm talking about. Interesting that the warranty card is a locally generated printing, but being HK that doesn't surprise me. So tell me which 1969 Bell lives in there :)

This is a work in progress, i bought the watch with the box and original strap from the original owner, unfortunately he had lost the documents and watch cloth. After several months the missing bits came up for sale and I managed to buy them. So now the watch needs to be restored (case is perfect) and put back on it's unworn strap to be another "darling" in the collection.

This is such a useful and informative thread! Keep it coming guys, I'll promise I'll chip in with some photos in the future. We should get Isthmus to help us edit the watch archive and put in the watch boxes as well. I definitely will pay for more money for something that came in its original package.

Well lets keep this going :)  Some more to ponder over.

Seiko Quartz, by the style i would say early 70's

This one had me perplexed until i tried a large Chrono and the watch seemed to suit the very large watch holder, not for the "5" series watches?

Are nothing like a Tuna box to get the heart pumping :)  7549-7010

No idea but 1980's maybe?

And a great key ring to go with that BullHead

I appreciate the time you guys have taken to post these. Except for my SKX173 I'm boxless, so this has been a treat for me

Nice posts from everyone here. Some great looking boxes, and even a key holder.

Years ago I sent my Seiko Sports 100 in for a battery change to Coserv, like a dummy I sent it in the box it came in...MISTAKE. I wanted my box back, but never received it. :'(  I bet Coserv threw loads of them in the trash.

How often do you see NOS Sharp digital pocket watches?
The box to this one is better than the watch itself :a102:
As the watch is horrible! Case made of plastic......

Fascinating, especially (for me) the Silverwave and 7549-7010 boxes, which I never had seen before! Is this material going to be archived?

Great idea! Hopefully this thread will fill up with some great pics. I'll post what I have. Since I didn't actually purchase these watches, I obviously can't guarantee they left the factory with these boxes, but I do think they came together.

Super Deluxe from around 1960:

Auto Dater 7 from mid 1960's:

67-9038 from mid 1970's:

And one I'm not sure is original, a Cosmotron GX from mid-1970's:
