4006 in black?
« on: June 13, 2011, 05:35:28 PM »
Hi Gang!

Congrats on the subforum.  I'm not (yet) a huge Bellmatic guy, but have recently acquired two 4006 variants that I fell for quite a while ago.  The blue 4006-6029 and the brown 6021.  I can see why you all are fanatical in your love for the belles.  They kind of work their way into your heart.

Anyway, I saw a picture on Bob Thayer's web site of a stunning black 4006, that he "restored" from a brown 6021.  He swapped the enamel bezel for a black one and installed a black bellmatic dial.  It's on his site if you want a look-see.

I love the watch.  My question is did the 4006 come in black in this case style, or is this Bob's own creation?  My guess is it's the latter, but I thought I'd leave it to the experts.

Thanks!
David

Hermann probably has the definitive answer on this, but to the best of my knowledge, the -602x style case came with brown, dark blue, and black dials.

I have been in Deepshit many times; the older I get, the easier it is  to get there. I actually kind of enjoy it there :)

Great, thanks.  In many of the pics I've seen, its a bit tough to tell the dark blue from the black.   So to get the all black and white its the black bezel and dial, with the ring from the brown one...or is there a variant of the black that came with the black and white ring?

@ JohnN: thank you very much for the kind words - I am still in the humble beginnings of my apprenticeship for Bell-Mastery  :57:

As far as I have found out, there are three versions:
a. Black, matte dial 6050T, black alarm ring w/blue inner ring, black bezel ring
b. Brown, matte dial 6040T, black alrm ring w/white inner ring, black bezel ring
c. Blue sunburst dial 6050T, blue alarm ring w/turqoise inner ring AND red alarm window, blue bezel ring

At least the black version was also available with 27 jewels, which should be reflected in the dial code (but I do not have the actual code at hand), maybe the mighty Bentley has a close-up shot for me?

Any corrections/comments are much appreciated!!

Best,
Hermann
