SEIKO SKX779 - "Black Monster"
« on: March 27, 2011, 08:37:25 AM »
Hey,

It's me again. I will start a Review-Wave on this Forum ^^
At first some of you maybe saw my SEIKO 7002-7020 here. Now i will show you my "Christmas-Watch" i was given me last year in 2010.
It's the:

SEIKO SKX779 - "Black Monster"

Technical Data:
  • 7S26 Movement (21 Jewels)
  • Domed Mineral Crystal (Hardlex by Seiko)
  • Water resistant up to 200m
  • Screwed Crown at '4 o'clock
  • Screwed Caseback
  • MASSIVE Stainless Steal Bracelet
  • LumiBrite Indexes/ Hands
  • Dial in Black
  • 120 Clicks unidirectional rotating bezel
  • Polished and brushed Bracelet/Case elements.
So far, i like the Monster, it is an Massive watch which is present on the wrist. I compared the Bracelet with a friends SUMO.
They are nearly the same in quality... but the Sumos is a bit better, just a little bit.

The Lume is awesome! You can see it on my Nightshots with a long Shutter-time but compared with the Sumo, the Lume is made better in the Hands! Nearly perfect.
The brightness is the same as i think, we couldn't find a difference with our humanic eyes :D

The Massive Bezel rotates Smooth and pretty exactly. The Bezel is a bit secured at 12 & 6 with the Case. A bit like a Shrouded watch but just from the same case.
The bezel goes a bit in the way up to the crystal! So the Domed Hardlex looks very nice on it!

IMO the Monster with the "Hate-It-Or-Love-It"-Design is one of the best in the category "under 200€"

I Put a Black Marinemaster 300 Clasp on the Braclet, because the original is like the SUMOs... a cheapy one -.-"

Now... some Pictures!

It's not big as many think!

Nightshot

Lume loaded with that little one :)

Thanks for watching!

Kind regards
Viktor

I have this model with rubber strap.
I often say that is the real man watch ... people who like watches, should have one.

Thanks you guys!

Yeah... but the clasp is very cheap it's the Badass Clasp under the Clasps :D because it's pretty nice to see nice look, but the quality and fashioning isn't very good.
Same as the SUMO Clasp... but just an subjectiv aspect from me :D

Achja schön dass es doch mehr von uns hier gibt :)

Kind regards from Karlsruhe, Germany

Wow, wonderful photo's!  This affirmed my decision to place an order for a Black Monster!  Hopefully it gets shipped out this week - and I'll get it in a couple of days.

For now, I will just look, longingly, at the pictures in this thread!

Nice review Viktor and some superb pictures Thank you.

I have to disagree with you totally about the clasp I'm afraid, I think its a good design and well made.
Maybe a little cheap for the Sumo, but the Sumo's priced way higher.

With you all the way on the rest though.
The Monster an absolute steal at the price.
I still can't believe you can get so much watch for so little money.

Kind Regards

Graham

Overall I like the watch.
Just have the difficulty to unlock the crown.
I think the design is for divers when on duty with their diving gloves worn.

Nice clasp upgrade. I definitely count myself as a Monster fan. Currently rocking my OM on a 4 ring Maratac Zulu.

Now I miss my black and orange monster, these babies have got to the brightest lumed watch I ever had next to the Omega sea master 300m. Very tough too. Congrats.

Thanks a lot guys!
I love this watch. This is the reason why i will keep it. It is such a beauty in my collection. Sooner or later i will give some of mine away, but the Monster will stay!
Maybe i would have to chance the Bracelet (looks pretty rocked now of wearing it too much :D)

I have an OM. The only downside of these Monsters is that the lug size is too small for such a manly watch.
