Seiko production date calculator - new one! Rev02-08/03/11
« on: March 06, 2011, 11:06:25 PM »
As the production date calculator this site links to hasn't been working for some time I have knocked up my own version. It is just a quick and dirty excel spreadsheet but it seems to work so far! If you want to download it go here:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/cannop/files/seikocalculator.xls

If you find any problems with it give me a shout - I am no excel guru but if I can fix any problems I will.

Edit - I have made two small changes to the spreadsheet since I posted it last night. It doesn't affect the results, it just tidies up the error messages. Oh and a bugfix now  :-[ ! The latest version is Rev02-08/03/11.

Moderators - if this is against any rules here apologies, I'm just trying to give a little back to this excellent community. Please let me know and feel free to delete this thread.

Greetings Cannop:

Great work - 1 comment:  I get an error when I try to determine the date for my Seiko 5606 Lord Matic.  The serial number is 002093.  I've put it in both as 2093 and 002093 and each time get a serial number format incorrect message.  Any thoughts?

Regards,
Mike

Try O rather than 0 as the second character (that would be the letter o as opposed to the number zero). Or vice versa depending on what you did the last time.

Technoman is right, the second character on your serial number is actually the letter "O" not a zero. Try that and it should work.

try OpenOffice.  it's basically a free microsoft office clone. they have various office programs in the package.  they're a bit rough and not every file is compatible, but they're sufficient enough to open and read most files.  I mainly use it for typing papers and such.  http://download.openoffice.org/

How about a 7009-8129 with SN 764xxx ?

June of 1967 or June of 1977 ?

I have Open Office, and it opens only in read-only mode.  It won't accept anything I put in.   :(

Possibly June 1977, although I have never heard of one quite that early so probably June 1987.

Sorry about the open office incompatibility :( , I created it with microsoft office as thats what is on my computer here. It seems like an open office glitch as there are two unprotected cells, the ones that you enter the movement and serial number in. I'm not sure if you can do anything about though.  ???

I guess it's only a problem if, you directly open it (of course the sytem also downloads it, but the behaviour seems to be different). If you first download it from to your hard drive and than open it, it works at least with LibreOffice (so it should work as well with OpenOffice).

Cheers,

Axel
