Cheap Chinese Made Watch Crystal Press
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:03:47 AM »

I purchased this press from an eBay seller in China some time ago for about US$20-00. It looked reasonable and enough to do the job satisfactorily but it is just not up to it and has proved an expensive waste of money.

Assembled, it looks capable enough, but if you notice, the screw section protrudes past the boundaries of the plastic dies in a position ready to cause damage to your watch or new crystal - as it did with a watch I was working on - the more one screws down the more the metal screw part pokes through.

Furthermore, these plastic dies are weak - one of mine broke in half. In my opinion, the device is not built to perform the job. As one screws down the press, the unsecured side starts to open up like a mouth and fails to apply even pressure on the watch part one is working on, also giving the impression the tool is going to break in half. My advice is don't buy one of these inferior presses, invest in something better. I have yet to successfully use this device.

Under pressure, the screwed shank pushes past where it should stop against the die and the quantity of plastic from the die left on the shank indicates the dies will not last long.

Under pressure, the mouth of the press opens up applying uneven pressure to the crystal.
