My first mod - now i'm hooked!
« on: January 28, 2011, 10:17:32 AM »
After being a Seiko FAN for several years, I've finally decided to try my hand at modded Seikos. I don't have the necessary skill-set to do the job myself(yet), so i just ordered the parts from Yobokies and let the watchmaker at my local AD do the actual modding. As an added bonus, they assured me that they'll honor the remainder of the warranty of my watch.

I started with a NOS SKX031 that I found marked-down at the same AD then I ordered Mercedes Benz hands, Stainless steel chapter ring and Domend AR Sapphire crystal from Harold.

For something that's supposedly AR, it sure reflects a lot.  I didn't have a Circular Polarizer for my macro lens so...

After a few days, I decided that I have enough black-dialed, black-bezeled divers in my drawer and I wanted to try something different.  A quick e-mail to Harold and 1 week later, here she is again.

Very nice.  We don't see too many of the mid sized divers modded. I like the green better than the black.  I recently made a PO inspired mod out of an old thrashed 033.

The green ring is a very nice touch. I will have to see if he has a GMT in green.

My 'Snowflake' is in a mid-size diver. The -0030 case will take all of the 007 dials.

I think I need to re-think my black dial subs! Very nice and I think the crystal looks nice. Great job and you probably can't wait to do it again. :great:

Welcome to the world of modification.  I am recent to horology and have gotten into the modification malarky,  There are so many permutations and its such fun to mix 'n' match dials, hands, chapter rings and inserts etc, etc.

I like getting old knackered watches, toncing up the case heads and movements and creating a unique watch (well relatively unique!).  I would bite the bullet and have a go at modification yourself because if careful it is perfectly possible for a novice to learn and it's so rewarding when it turns out well.

The main problem with all domed crystal's are  reflections including the anti-reflective ones that seem to be a different tint but just as bad.

It's people like you and mods like yours that made me decide to try my hand at it too. I never gave the mid sized Divers a second thought, but you've changed my mind. I would love to build something similar.  Great idea with the green bezel insert, it sure gives your watch character.

Hi, I have decided to get involved with knocking over the 20 posts required to be able to trade and also to get to know some new people at the same time. I too have become obsessed with Modding seiko 7548 quartz divers. I initially began by buying a 5H26 as a replacement for a dead 7S26 which I wore for many years, and something clicked after the first purchase. I then proceeded to buy another 5 - 5H26 watches and discovered the 7548, I now have 7 of these 7548's fully restored. My hobby is consuming a fair bit of time looking and watching new Mods getting to know where, how and who's who for parts. I have made some new friends in the new parts dept for each watch I buy. Now these watches are all restored to original conditon some have the blue sapphire crystals, and now I'm revisiting my obsession to now Mod these watches with designer hands. So where does all this stop. I though maybe I could buy say 5 or 6 of these sell them and use the money to buy a 7549 which I'm still chasing atm, not to be. I have an attachment to each watch and cant part with any. So where does this put me!! Considering I only began this after early January. The post office is constantly dropping parcels of parts to my house every day, the postie looks at me very strangley lately..haha But anyway my name is Bob and I'm from Austarlia. This is my first post. ^-^ Now I'm hooked also. lol
