Yup its an affliction.

Recently acquired a Stingray. The bezel was in a bad shape so took some work - the lume pip even more - i made a new one but still wanted the steel tube

Yeah there are pics of one with a black bezel around. But it looks painted. Hence the finish is quite thick - and probably not very durable. But i doubt its black faced. As far as i know they only ever did the Stingray in dark blue. I have never ever seen a black or green faced one. The one with the gold bezel has had its blue finish removed. For some reason, Seiko plates the bezel in a gold colour prior to adding the translucent blue finish. Whether or not they do that to make the blue adhere to the stainless bezel or whether its for aesthetic reasons i have no idea. I just know that the gold is under the blue.

From a japanese contact i gather that there were some bad batches of bezels - where the blue comes off very easily . But some others are very resilient .

BTW, is there a Howto on opening those watches somewhere? I had to send mine to local Seiko for a new capacitor cause my watch repair man couldn't find a way to crack it open and wouldn't risk damaging it. He called Seiko in front of me and they told him that they have a special tool for that. Is that true or just baloney on their part? thanks

I haven't posted on the forum in quite awhile but feel compelled to say... Well done. That is an impressive collection, and one of my favorite watches that I wish I owned.
