Question Seiko 6309-7290 buying advice please.

Have I made an error in bidding on this one? Some of you might recognise it.

The thing is the hands look correct, 7548 type with the larger ring on the meat ball. The rotating ring insert also looks to have the correct triangle/lume pip and also the grainy texture from what I can tell. But the dial, the print and the dial code are starting to niggle.

Compared to this pic from the 6309-729 thread on here, I'm wondering just what it looks like the flesh....

Hi
Comparing your purchase to mine.
The 150 printing does look thicker.
Maybe down to blurred image or maybe a factory mistake when printing?
Everything seems to line up though, seems original.

Mario I was going to send you a picture for your help. I wonder now whether you would come back with 'nope, Guy. Cancel the order and tell the seller to relist and then let me know the item id! '... I kid of course.. I just thought best to just create a full thread in the end...

Thanks both, I agree it looks good, maybe excellent but it's that that makes me question it. The tell tale signs of am just aren't there for me, yet it's too difficult to be 100%. However, I'm not 100%. I'd like to see some more pictures but I shall just await its arrival now I think. Fingers crossed....

And yup Paul the focus issue with the pic is what is giving me hope that the print is actually OK. I used the sharpen picture app on my phone and it makes it look more believable. Hmmmmm

I think it's a right one Guy. The blurry pic doesn't help, but right now my money's on it being a good'n. I bet you can't wait for it to arrive so you can see what you've got.

Watch is finally saying it's awaiting to be sent abroad, so hopefully won't be too long now. Very eagerly anticipated.

Also in its 30th year.

Have I struck a bit of gold with this one?

Case is unmarked with some sticky residue from the little oval sticker. The rotating ring is spotless and the dial looks good but I'm no expert on these. The only slight issue is the minute hand shows some tainting which might be from moisture, though only visibly in very angled light. Meat ball hand looks correct and the quality of print seems there to my eyes. Hand lume is excellent condition. Overall the lume is weak but consistent with bezel pip, dies quickly especially on the dial. Hands maintain slight glow for a bit longer.

I hope so, John!

I must say I'm quite taken by it in the flesh. The flat/squareness of the hands suit the dial lume plots. If it is a genuine 6309-7290 I can't believe how lucky I am to have scored one in such condition.

Bezel slopes towards the crystal. Although I know that can be achieved with non-original inserts.

Thank you, Mario. That's good to hear.

Roman numerals. Were you expecting that or what else could/would they have?

You got me confused with that "40 years" line. Then I thought that the insert is too "smooth" and hands too flat, which could also look different because of the pictures.

But then - it is actually 30 years! So everything is fine. I think this "changes" were introduced in the last one or two years of production of 6309.

Congratulations!

EDIT:729 was not even in production until 82 or sthg.

Yeh 82 as far as I know. What changes do you mean, Hrvoje?

Well Guy, I think that in the last (or so) year of production of the 6309, the hands and the bezel insert looked a bit more like they look on 7002 - surface of the 7002 insert is less "grained" and hands are “flatter”.
