Hello there! Howdy...Hi!

This has just been picked up and here is the original picture:

Now, the movement, although looking in not too bad condition, is not working. I can see that the balance spring is all over the place. Rotor turns and the date changes, hands move etc....Haven't done much more than a steady and slow check. But it has obviously had some water get in there.

I've taken it apart and cleaned up the case, retaining ring, bezel and the gaskets and swapped it for a slighty better original crystal, albeit with a nick that's fairly obvious... Crown locks very well, bezel turns nice and firm with no play. MOvement ring and dial holder are in place. Doesn't look like it's been tampered with at all.

Here is how it looks now:

Sore points are a faded 'SEIKO' badge. Slightly faded 'AUTOMATIC' text at the U and T, which may or may not clean up? I'm not risking touching that, and of course the hands and dial blackening. I've managed to very carefully clean up the plots a little more and think it looks quite good.

Good points are that it's all original, the insert looks actually pretty good. Case isn't too bad at all, very slight wear as could be expected for a watch that's obviously been used for what it was made for, but after the tidy it looks nice I think. Brushed lines look smart on the case back.

A fairly decent October 1976 6105 8110!

What do you think, though?

I'm thinking a service by Cannop and a relume to the hands it should be good to go and I'll consider selling it on.

Would you relume it? I picked up a NOS hand from Stefan and was considering using it on it but I think that's a little ridiculous considering the overall condition. I do, however, have a seconds hand on my other 6105 that is in great condition, but shows a slight circular blackening to the pink dot, nothing too bad at all but I think swapping that hand to this one, and using the NOS hand for the other would be more in keeping as the cleaner 6105 'beater I have would probably benefit from the good looking NOS hand.

Then I will have a decent looking seconds hand on this one. I just wonder whether it's worth reluming the dial and the hands or just to simply keep it as is and get it up and running..

What are your thoughts?! I know I know....

'Guy, please stop buying 6105s and posting about them!' :)

AH damn, John...Sorry! I just realised I've posted this in trading! Could you be so kind to move it to the correct forum?

Yeh I'll get it sent next week. Cheers, Jim.
Thanks, too, Peter, but are you sure that it was this one i outbid on as this one as this was a BIN?

If you simply mean I beat ya to it, sorry! :)

I was watching an original waffle last night and it went for 59 dollars. Incorrect buckle but the rest was good. I fell asleep....

If you are going to turn it around I would not relume the dial. To many collectors like the original dirty lume on the dial. If I was redoing it and I had no plans on selling it I would relume the dial and hands because I personally do not like patina watches but I am out numbered in my preference for sure when it comes to the 6105 divers.
The black look of the Seiko logo is an extremely common occurrence and should not hurt the resale of the watch either as it is a normal aging process of these 6105 dials also.
If she had water inside at one time take a close look at your movement holder and make sure the spring is still there. It often get knocked of during service or will rust on a water intrusion watch. Overall it looks like a nice original watch.

I'm with you Michael but I don't mind a little genuine patina but I really dislike rot/grunge/black crap :)

For me this dial is just about ok, a bit of age but not over the top.

Personally I would love any vintage watch I own to have a dial/hands/bezel that looked like new and that is my ultimate aim for what watches I have left in my collection.

Fully agree with all of that, Michael.
I don't think that the dial is too bad at all and I definitely won't ask Duncan to relume that.

The hands I will get him to sort out.
The spring and movement holder are all there and the movement is actually not too bad.

I'll await Duncan's thoughts when he gets it and will keep y'all uodated.!

Hey Guy,

I reckon for the price and after a service and hand re-lume, that'll make a great beater 6105 you can wear without worry. If eventually you do decide to sell it on I'm sure you'll get your money back on it too! :)

Look forward to seeing after service pics. ;)

Cheers, Billy!
Yeh I've warned Cannop that it's on its way and will be with him by the end of the week.
Plan is to get it working, cleaned and a relume of the hands and hopefully it will look pretty good. I'll replace the crystal, too and that will be that.

I'll probably keep it for the foreseeable, but we'll see. Will be nice to get a beaten up one up and running again. Just hope it doesn't need too much work doing.

I've actually been quite taken with how it looks, but I'm positive a relume of the hands is a good way to go. I'm impressed with how the dial looks considering the state of the hands.

Will of course report back when it's done.
Can't wait! :)
