Hello there! Howdy...Hi!
This has just been picked up and here is the original picture:
Now, the movement, although looking in not too bad condition, is not working. I can see that the balance spring is all over the place. Rotor turns and the date changes, hands move etc....Haven't done much more than a steady and slow check. But it has obviously had some water get in there.
I've taken it apart and cleaned up the case, retaining ring, bezel and the gaskets and swapped it for a slighty better original crystal, albeit with a nick that's fairly obvious... Crown locks very well, bezel turns nice and firm with no play. MOvement ring and dial holder are in place. Doesn't look like it's been tampered with at all.
Here is how it looks now:
Sore points are a faded 'SEIKO' badge. Slightly faded 'AUTOMATIC' text at the U and T, which may or may not clean up? I'm not risking touching that, and of course the hands and dial blackening. I've managed to very carefully clean up the plots a little more and think it looks quite good.
Good points are that it's all original, the insert looks actually pretty good. Case isn't too bad at all, very slight wear as could be expected for a watch that's obviously been used for what it was made for, but after the tidy it looks nice I think. Brushed lines look smart on the case back.
A fairly decent October 1976 6105 8110!
What do you think, though?
I'm thinking a service by Cannop and a relume to the hands it should be good to go and I'll consider selling it on.
Would you relume it? I picked up a NOS hand from Stefan and was considering using it on it but I think that's a little ridiculous considering the overall condition. I do, however, have a seconds hand on my other 6105 that is in great condition, but shows a slight circular blackening to the pink dot, nothing too bad at all but I think swapping that hand to this one, and using the NOS hand for the other would be more in keeping as the cleaner 6105 'beater I have would probably benefit from the good looking NOS hand.
Then I will have a decent looking seconds hand on this one. I just wonder whether it's worth reluming the dial and the hands or just to simply keep it as is and get it up and running..
What are your thoughts?! I know I know....
'Guy, please stop buying 6105s and posting about them!'

AH damn, John...Sorry! I just realised I've posted this in trading! Could you be so kind to move it to the correct forum?
